GREENVILLE, North
Carolina - Tyler DeLoach allowed just one run and Corey Dick knocked in a
career-high five runs as UNCW raced past No. 24 East Carolina, 10-1, in college
baseball action on Tuesday at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
The Seahawks improved to 21-16 with the road win while the
Pirates fell to 25-11-1
DeLoach (3-2) went a career-long 6 1/3 innings, allowing
just that one run on two hits, four walks and a school-record tying four hit
batters.
The Seahawks jumped on ECU starter Jeff Hoffman (1-1) for
six runs on eight hits and a walk in 4 2/3 innings.
Dick gave UNCW a 3-0 lead in the third when he slammed his
third homer of the season, with two on, to right.
UNCW added a run in the fourth on a RBI ground out by Jake
Koenig and two more in the fifth when Hunter Ridge doubled in two runs with two
out.
Both teams scored in the seventh with ECU getting on the board
on a RBI single from Jay Cannon.
The Seahawks extended their lead to 10-1 in the ninth with
three more runs. A wild pitch, RBI ground out by Dick and a RBI single by
Michael Bass completed the scoring.
Joining Dick in leading the offense was Thomas Pope with
four hits and three runs scored. Ridge added three hits as the Seahawks outhit
the Pirates, 15-5.
Drew Reynolds had three hits for ECU.
The Seahawks return to Colonial Athletic Association action
on April 21, with a doubleheader at Northeastern. First pitch is slated for
noon.
