WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Michael Bass singled through the right side to score Jake Koenig from second base with the winning run in the bottom of ninth to lift UNCW past Hofstra, 2-1, in Colonial Athletic Association baseball action on Saturday at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks improved to 20-15 overall and 12-2 in the CAA. UNCW has now won all five of its league series. The Pride, meanwhile, dipped to 18-15 and 9-5.

In the ninth, Koenig reached first on a fielder's choice and stole second. With two outs, Bass singled off a 2-2 offering from losing pitcher Bryan Verbitsky (0-1) plating Koenig with the winning run.

Reliever Ricky Holden (2-0) picked up the win with two innings of two-hit, shutout baseball. He extended his shutout streak to 21 1/3 innings and lowered his ERA to 1.53.

UNCW plated the first run of the afternoon in the third when Koenig was hit by a pitch and would later come around to score on a ground ball out by Matt Campbell.

Hofstra drew even in the sixth when Jared Hammer singled home Matt Ford, who led off the inning with a hit and moved into scoring position on a throwing error.

Ford led both lineups with three hits for the Pride, who outhit the Seahawks, 10-6.

Bass was the lone Seahawk with a multiple hit game.

Starters John Tiedemann for Hofstra and UNCW's Mat Batts both pitched well, but did not figure in the decision.

Tiedemann fanned eight and allowed just one run on four hits and a pair of walks in eight innings.

Batts matched Tiedemann going seven innings, allowing one run on eight hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out six.

The Seahawks donned Orange uniform tops to recognize the Miracle League of Wilmington.

The series concludes on Sunday with a 2 p.m. start.
