WILMINGTON, North
Carolina - Tyler McSwain allowed just two runs on seven hits over 6 1/3
innings and Hunter Ridge collected three hits and a pair of runs batted in as
UNCW topped visiting Hofstra, 10-3, in Colonial Athletic Association baseball
action Friday at Brooks Field.
The Seahawks (19-15) improved to 11-2 in the league with the
victory while the Pride (18-14) dropped to 9-4.
McSwain (5-2) won his fourth straight conference start and
walked two and fanned two.
The Seahawks jumped on starter Jared Rogers (0-4) for three
runs in the first inning on three hits. Ridge and Drew Farber each had RBI
singles to key the rally.
UNCW extended its lead to 5-0 with a run in the third and
another in the fifth. Thomas Pope plated the run in the third with an infield
single and Ridge delivered a RBI single to center in the fifth.
The Pride finally broke through against McSwain in the sixth
on a sacrifice fly by Danny Poma.
UNCW answered that run in the bottom of the frame with three
runs, all coming with two out, to build an 8-1 advantage. Matt Campbell singled
in the first run and the other two came across on Andrew Cain's single to
center two batters later.
Farber, Cain and Tyler Molinaro each had two hits for UNCW,
which out hit the Pride 13-8.
Dalton Rouleau, Jared Hammer and Kevin Flynn had two hits
apiece for the Pride.
Rogers allowed five runs on seven hits and a pair of walks
in five innings of work.
With three hits, Ridge became the 16th Seahawk to reach the
200-hit mark.
The series continues on Saturday with a 2 p.m. start.
