WILMINGTON, North
Carolina - UNCW managed just five runs on 13 hits over the course of two
games as the Seahawks dropped both contests on Sunday, 7-2 to UNC Asheville and
8-3 to NC State, at the Hughes Bros Challenge at Brooks Field.
The Seahawks dropped to 3-8 with the twinbill sweep while
UNCA and NC State improved to 7-5 and 8-2, respectively.
In the opener, UNCW freshman Jordan Ramsey (0-1) gave the
Seahawks a solid start allowing two runs on three hits and three walks over
five innings, but took the loss. The Seahawks received another strong start in
the nightcap from Mat Batts (0-2), who went seven innings and allowed three
runs, two earned, and fanned seven.
UNCA starter Drew Spear earned the win, limiting the
Seahawks to a run on four hits and four walks during his six innings of work.
In game two, NCSU starter Carlos Rondon (2-0) allowed three
runs runs, two earned, on eight hits and a walk. Rondon struck out five. Ethan
Ogburn picked up his first save of the season, striking out two in two innings.
Brett Austin collected four hits to key a 16-hit Wolfpack
attack while Ryan Matthews added three hits.
Hunter Ridge had three hits in the second game for the Seahawks.
The Seahawks visit Coastal Carolina on Mar. 6, for a 4 p.m.
