UNCW Takes Series With 7-0 Whitewashing

NEWARK, Delaware - Jordan Ramsey and three relievers combined to shut out Delaware while Matt Campbell fueled the offense with four hits as UNCW won its Colonial Athletic Association series with a 7-0 win on Sunday at Bob Hannah Stadium.

The Seahawks improved to 5-1 in the CAA and 9-10 overall. The Blue Hens, meanwhile, dropped to 8-11 and 3-3 in the league.

Ramsey scattered seven hits over a career-long 5 2/3 innings to pick up the win, the first of his career. He walked two and fanned four and lowered his earned run average to 3.15.

Campbell's four hits were a season-high and raised his season average to .294. Drew Farber added three hits for UNCW.

UD starter Chad Kuhl (1-3) was tagged with the loss despite striking out 10 and limiting UNCW to three runs on eight hits over 6 1/3 innings.

Cameron Travalini, Jimmy Yezzo and Tyler Powell had two hits apiece for the Blue Hens.

UNCW plated single runs in the first, second and fourth innings to build a 3-0 lead. Corey Dick's first career homer in the second went out to left field.

The Seahawks extended their lead to 7-0 in the ninth with Thomas Pope keying the outburst with a two-out, bases-loaded triple.

The Blue Hens had several opportunities to narrow the deficit during the game, but UNCW escaped by turning a season-high four double plays. UNCW pitchers recorded 13 ground ball outs on the afternoon.

The Seahawks host College of Charleston on March 20 at 6:30 p.m., before returning to conference play next weekend at VCU.
