Sixth Inning Homer Edges Seahawks, 3-2

NEWARK, Delaware - Alex Maruri's three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted Delaware to a 3-2 win over UNCW and tied the Colonial Athletic Association series at one game apiece on Saturday at Bob Hannah Stadium. The series concludes on Sunday with first pitch set for 1 p.m.

The Blue Hens improved to 8-10 overall and 3-2 in the CAA. The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Seahawks, who dropped to 8-10 and 4-1 in the league. The game lasted just 1:59 and was the fastest game for either club this season.

UD starter Corey Crispell (4-1) limited the Seahawks to two runs on six hits and a walk over 7 2/3 innings. Devon Pearson earned his second save of the season.

Mat Batts (1-3) was the hard luck loser, allowing three unearned runs on five hits while striking out a career-high nine in 6 2/3 innings.

The Seahawks had taken a 2-0 lead on Tyler Molinaro's fifth homer of the season, a two-run shot, in the top of the sixth. UD answered, however, in the bottom of the frame against UNCW starter Mat Batts. After Batts fanned the leadoff hitter in the sixth, UNCW committed an error and D.J. Long, who finished with two hits, singled to put runners at first and second. Batts then struck out the next hitter before Maruri lined an 0-1 offering over the wall in left and gave UD a 3-2 lead.

UNCW threatened in the eighth putting runners at first and second following a single by Molinaro and Cain was hit by a pitch. But UD closer Drew Pearson snuffed the rally with a strikeout to end the inning.
