The Red Storm improved to 3-5 with the non-conference road win while the Seahawks dropped to 2-6 with their fifth consecutive loss. The Seahawks were also blanked for the third time this season.

Eddie Medina (1-0) picked up the win in his first start of the season. He limited the Seahawks to a hit and three walks over six innings while striking out four. Stephen Rivera and James Lomangino finished off the game for SJU out of the bullpen. Lomangino pitched a perfect ninth inning for the save.

Thomas Jones (0-1) was saddled with the loss after allowing two runs on four hits over 4 1/3 innings. Jones finished with four strikeouts in his first start of the season after missing 2011 with an arm injury.

The bottom of the SJU order combined to go 5-for-8 with two runs scored and two knocked in with Danny Bethea adding a hit along with Grove and O'Hare's totals.

The Red Storm broke through in the third plating a run on a bases loaded ground ball double play.

Bethea made it 2-0 in the fifth with a single off UNCW reliever Ricky Holden that plated Grove.

The final run of the afternoon came in the seventh when O'Hare singled in Zach Lauricella with two outs.
