RALEIGH, North
Carolina - NC State struck for 10 runs in the eighth inning to back the
stellar relief work of Ethan Ogburn in topping visiting UNCW, 10-0, in college baseball
action on Tuesday at Doak Field.
The Wolfpack improved to 3-1 with the home win while the
Seahawks saw their record even out at 2-2. The setback halted a two-game winning
streak for the Seahawks at Doak Field.
In the eighth inning, the Wolfpack sent 16 batters to the
plate in the inning and roughing up four Seahawk relievers for 10 runs on seven
hits, two Seahawk errors helped extend the inning.
Ogburn (1-0) struck out six in four perfect innings of relief.
Andrew Ciencin paced the NCSU lineup with three hits and
knocked in three runs all during that deciding eighth inning. Trea Turner, Chris Diaz and Danny Canela all added two hits apiece.
UNCW starter Tyler McSwain held the Wolfpack in check over
the first seven innings, allowing no runs on four hits and two walks. He
finished with two strikeouts.
Matt Campbell collected two hits for the Seahawks, whose
last hit and base runner came in the fifth inning.
The Seahawks continue their road swing this weekend at
Mississippi beginning on Friday at 4 p.m. EST.
