WILMINGTON, North
Carolina - Drew Farber homered and knocked in both runs as UNCW fell to
visiting Team USA, 9-2, in a fall baseball exhibition game on Saturday at
Brooks Field.
Team USA, backed by home runs off the bats of Jesse Winker
and Joey Gallo, took advantage of six Seahawk errors in the field by plating
five unearned runs.
Winker gave the USA a 2-0 lead in the first with an opposite
field home run over the wall in left center with a man on off UNCW starter
Tyler McSwain for the early lead.
After seeing USA build a 3-0 lead with a run off McSwain in
the second, Farber lined a single to center with two out to bring UNCW to within
two, 3-1.
USA exploded for four runs in the sixth off UNCW freshman
reliever Jordan Ramsey as Gallo delivered a two-run shot and Alex Bregman
doubled in a run pinch hitter Jeremy Martinez capped the outburst with a sacrifice
fly later in the inning for a 7-1 lead.
Farber drilled a solo shot in the seventh making it a
five-run deficit, 7-2.
Bregman was the only player in the lineup for Team USA with
two hits while Farber led UNCW with a pair of hits.
McSwain was tagged with the loss, surrendering three runs,
two earned, on four hits in 1.1 innings.
Carson Kelly picked up the win, allowing a run on one hit
and a walk in two innings of work.
Sophomore transfer Mat Batts highlighted the Seahawks on the
mound by tossing three perfect innings and facing the minimum.
