Guderian Nets Three In Season Finale Win

WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Senior Shawn Guderian scored a hat trick in his final collegiate game to lift UNCW past George Mason, 4-2, in Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer action on Saturday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The Seahawks, who halted an eight-game winless streak, finished at 4-12-2 overall and 2-8-1 in the league. GMU saw its season come to an end with a 7-8-3 mark, including 4-6-1 in the CAA.

Guderian notched his three goals in the 21st, 30th and 47th minutes, becoming the first Seahawk to score three goals in a game since Devan Carroll did so in 2008 against William & Mary. Junior Thomas Driver assisted on the last two markers while junior Etienne Boulanger added an assist on the first goal.

Freshman Mateo Cardona netted his first collegiate goal, coming in the 69th minute.

Trailing 3-0, GMU's Ryan Gracia scored in the 49th minute to narrow the deficit to two goals.

The final goal of the evening was scored by Hugh Roberts after he knocked in a rebound off a shot from Eric Zuehsow in the 87th minute.

George Mason built a 13-10 edge in shots, but managed only six on goal with UNCW senior keeper Brandon Miller finishing with four saves.

Sean Cote recorded three stops for the Patriots.
