WILMINGTON, N.C. - UNCW senior second baseman Morgan Walters was named a Second-Team All-CAA selection for the third time in her career on Tuesday as the Colonial Athletic Association handed out its annual awards during the 2010 CAA Softball Championship tournament banquet.
"Morgan had a stellar senior season and I am excited to see her hard work be rewarded with All-CAA accolades," said UNCW Head Coach Kelly Van Houten. "We are honored by the way she has represented UNCW during her four-year career and she will definitely be missed."
A native of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., Walters paced the Seahawks attack during her final season in the Port City as she established new career highs with a .368 batting average, 56 hits, 66 total bases and a .434 slugging percentage. She also served as an anchor of the UNCW infield as she started 47 of the team's 51 games at second base and posted a .948 fielding percentage in more than 200 total chances. She finished her career on the program's top 10 lists in doubles (31/T-6th), hits (177/9th), at-bats (586/9th) and defensive assists (278/9th).
In other awards handed out Tuesday, James Madison's sophomore shortstop Ashley Burnham was named CAA Player-of-the-Year while Hofstra freshman pitcher Olivia Galati captured CAA Pitcher and Rookie-of-the-Year accolades. Hofstra skipper Bill Edwards was tabbed as the circuit's Coach-of-the-Year for the third straight season.
