ATLANTA, Ga. - No. 29 Georgia Tech swept the doubles point and won five of six singles matches to coast past No. 48 UNC Wilmington, 6-1, in men's tennis action Sunday at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
The Yellow Jackets, playing a top 55 team for the seventh time in eight matches, improved to 9-3 with the win. The Seahawks dropped their second straight match and now stand 7-3 this spring.
Tech clinched the doubles point when Eliot Potvin and Dean O'Brien whipped UNCW's Illia Ziamtsou and Kosta Blank, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles.
The Seahawks then trailed 5-0 when Blank recorded UNCW's lone victory in singles with a 6-3-, 6-1 decision over O'Brien at No. 4 singles.
Tech's Guillermo Gomez, ranked fifth in the ITA poll, set the tone early with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over UNCW's Michael Pereira.
The Seahawks travel on down to Daytona Beach, Fla., where they will play East Tennessee State and Stetson on Tuesday and Thursday in a pair of non-conference matches.
