CAA Honors Women's Tennis Players

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Two UNCW women's doubles teams have been recognized by the Colonial Athletic Association for their tennis play early this spring.

The Seahawks, 7-3, travel to Charleston today to battle Charleston Southern before returning to Wilmington for a three-match home stand, starting with an 11 a.m. clash Saturday against CAA rival Georgia State.

Junior Lindsay Leblang (Coral Springs, Fla.) and sophomore Christina Lee (Charlotte, N.C.) were selected as the CAA Women's Doubles Team of the Week for the week ending February 28. The Seahawks' No. 2 tandem posted an 8-6 victory over Presbyterian's Monica Arguello and Michele Stanford and then topped UNC Charlotte's Gabi Vergara and Anna Ekelund, 8-5.

Senior Kayla Schwenk (Coconut Creek, Fla.) and freshman Christina Riley (Plainfield, Ind.) were selected as the CAA Doubles Team of the Week for the week ending March 14. The duo went 3-0 at No. 1 doubles, beating Nova Southeastern's Karolina Porizkova and Justine Feaster, 8-2, North Carolina A&T's Nina Henry and Nianna Henry, 8-2 and George Washington's Mimi Hamling and Zoe Krohn, 8-6.

"This is a well deserved honor for both our doubles teams that are being recognized for their recent successes on the court throughout a very tough stretch of matches," said Head Coach Jenny Garrity. "Doubles is something we focus on a great deal, and both of these teams have had a great season thus far because of their determination and hard work.

"Our league is filled with many nationally-ranked doubles teams. To be singled out says a great deal about their accomplishments."
