UNCW'S JACKSON RESIGNS TO ACCEPT POSITION AT LIBERTY

WILMINGTON, N.C. - UNC Wilmington assistant baseball coach Scott Jackson has announced his resignation to accept a position in the same capacity at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.

Jackson, who recently completed his fifth season with the Seahawks, helped guide the Seahawk pitching staff to four consecutive 40-win seasons, a Colonial Athletic Association record, and three trips to the NCAA Tournament.

In 2007, righthander Daniel Cropper earned Ping! Baseball Freshman All-America honors after leading the Seahawks in innings pitched (84.0) and ranking second on the club with a 3.75 earned run average.

During his tenure, seven UNCW hurlers were selected in the Major League Baseball draft including current minor leaguers Jeff Moore (Baltimore), Ronald Hill (Philadelphia) and Adam Paul (San Francisco). Six pitchers earned All-CAA honors under Jackson's guidance.

In 2003, his first season with the Seahawks, his staff set school single-season marks with 17 saves and 489 strikeouts. In 2006, UNCW posted its third highest strikeout total with 461 on the season.

Over the last five seasons, the pitching staff has ranked amongst the conference elite four times. In 2004, UNCW led the circuit with a 3.55 ERA in conference action and was ranked nationally in 2005 with a 4.27 ERA.
