WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW's Director of Athletics Michael Oblinger has announced a series of promotions and a strategic leadership addition to the department's executive team designed to further position UNCW Athletics for continued growth, innovation and success.
Dr. Sheri Brinson will serve in an expanded role as the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Financial Services. Brinson will lead the department's financial operations, budgeting strategy, accounting and fiscal planning efforts while continuing to oversee process improvement initiatives and long-term resource management across UNCW Athletics.
Kiersten Klekner-Alt has been elevated to the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Governance and Eligibility. In her expanded leadership role, Klekner-Alt will oversee all aspects of NCAA Compliance while also providing leadership for the department's academic services and areas related to initial and continuing eligibility. She will continue to play a critical role in supporting the department's NIL/Revenue Share program.
Kristen Keller joined the department in June as the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Strategic Communications and Branding, overseeing the communications, creative, broadcasting and marketing teams. In her role, Keller will shape the department's overall brand strategy and strengthen how UNCW Athletics tells its story across platforms and audiences. She will lead efforts to elevate and expand the department's brand locally, regionally and nationally through strategic campaigns, compelling storytelling and innovative content.
Adam Fearing has been named the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Revenue Generation. In addition to overseeing the department's advancement efforts, Fearing will lead UNCW Athletics' evolving revenue generation strategy, including oversight of the Taymar partnership supporting sponsorship and ticketing operations. His leadership will focus on strengthening external engagement and creating sustainable revenue growth opportunities for the department.
Laura Pearson has been elevated to the role of Associate Athletics Director for Administration. Pearson will continue serving as the primary sport administrator for multiple sports while supporting UNCW Athletics' NIL strategy and NIL-related education, resources, and operational coordination across the department.
"These individuals represent the leadership, vision and commitment necessary to continue elevating UNCW Athletics," said Oblinger. "Each person has demonstrated a deep commitment to our student-athletes, our staff and our mission. I am excited to continue building the future of Seahawk Athletics alongside these outstanding leaders."
Along with the promotions above, UNCW Athletics hired Jack Mehrtens, who was named the Associate Athletics Director for Revenue Generation in conjunction with the Taymar partnership. Mehrtens will focus on corporate sponsorships and will work closely with campus leadership to enhance revenue performance and strengthen fan engagement efforts.
Mason Mullen was elevated to the role of Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Fan Experience. Mullen will continue to lead the marketing department and its efforts in enhancing the fan experience through innovative game-day enhancements.
