Men's Golf Increases Lead in Second Round

SAINT HELENA ISLAND, South Carolina -- The UNCW men's golf team upped its lead to seven strokes ahead of Campbell through 36 holes of the 2026 Coastal Athletic Association Championship at the Dataw Island Club on Monday afternoon.

Led by clubhouse leader James Rico, who holds a three-stroke edge over Towson's Arihau Faana and Campbell's Joachim Larsen Tegner, the Seahawks posted 19 birdies in the second round to increase its lead by six strokes ahead of the Camels.

One day after leading the field with a six-under first round mark, Rico was one of nine golfers to shoot below par with a two-under second round score. UNCW's Preston Worch shaved 10 strokes off his opening round with a three-under on Monday, while Gray Mitchum holds a share of fourth place with a four-under 36-hole score.

The Seahawks, who are in search of their first CAA title since 2023, open the final round at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
