Marshburn, Nelson Earn Preseason All-CAA Honors

Seahawks are the coaches pick to win the South Division

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Juniors Connor Marshburn and Cole Nelson were tabbed preseason All-Coastal Athletic Association, and the Seahawks were picked by the league's coaches to win the South Division in the upcoming season.

Marshburn was one of three starting pitchers in the league to earn the preseason honor. The righthander joined the starting rotation last season and made 15 starts. His starting debut came against nationally-ranked Georgia and he responded with six hitless innings and earned the win. He finished the season with a 4-3 record, posted a 3.51 earned run average and limited opponents to a .196 batting average.

Nelson, who earned his honor at designated hitter, belted a career-high 11 home runs in 39 games. In conference play, Nelson hit .303 with eight round trippers and he knocked in 21 runs.

Infielders Kevin Jones and Trevor Lucas were honorable mention selections by the coaches. Jones returns for his final season after earning second-team All-CAA honors. He started 58 games at shortstop and hit .294 and led the Seahawks with 54 runs scored. Lucas, meanwhile, hit nine home runs and led the lineup with 49 runs batted in.

The Seahawks, who have reached the championship game of the CAA tournament in nine of the last 10 tournaments, received three first-place votes to top the South and edged the College of Charleston. Campbell was picked third followed by Elon and William & Mary, who were tied for fourth, and North Carolina A&T rounded out the division.
Defending champion Northeastern was picked to win the North Division.

UNCW, which will host the 2026 CAA Championship tournament and the 16th time overall, opens the season with visiting Maryland on Feb. 13 at Brooks Field in the first of a three-game series.
