THE WOODS WAY
Nicole Woods enters her fourth season at the helm of the UNCW women's basketball program after leading the Seahawks to the second round of the CAA Tournament last season. The appearance marked the program's deepest postseason run under Woods.
NEW FACES
The Seahawks will feature a significantly revamped roster in 2026-27, welcoming 11 newcomers during the offseason. Woods added six transfers: Leah Keyes (George Mason), Kimmie Hicks (Loyola Maryland), Loghan Johnson (West Virginia), Naylee Cortes (College of Charleston), Bella Toomey (Fairleigh Dickinson) and Sienna Dauer (Davidson).
UNCW also added five freshmen: Promise Njoku (Mt. Zion Prep), Morgan White (Dorman High School), Jazlyn Bowman (Windermere Prep), Tiara Thompson (West Rowan High School) and Alva Hägerström (Hagagymnasiet/RIG Haga) of Sweden.
LEADING THE FLOCK
Woods strengthened her coaching staff with three additions during the offseason.
Jama Sharp joins the Seahawks as an assistant coach after previous stops at Virginia, Texas and Florida.
La'Karis Salter also joins the staff as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. She previously served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Kansas City.
Octavia Jett-Wilson rounds out the additions as the program's director of player personnel. A five-year standout at Charlotte, Jett-Wilson most recently helped lead the Baltimore Lady Wolves to the WABA National Championship and earned 2025 WABA Finals MVP honors.
SCOUTING BARTON
Barton reached the semifinals of the 2026 Conference Carolinas Championship before falling 80-60 to Chowan. Sophomore guard Layne Sleight earned All-Conference Carolinas honors following the season.
The Bulldogs enter the 2026-27 campaign with a revamped roster after losing eight players during the offseason and adding just one freshman.
NEXT TIME OUT
The Seahawks will return to Trask Coliseum on Saturday, Nov. 7, to host N.C. Central at noon. The game will stream on FloCollege.
