WILMINGTON, N.C. – The UNCW women's basketball and women's soccer teams were named the recipients of the Coastal Athletic Association's 2024-25 Team Academic Excellence Awards on Thursday afternoon.
The Team Academic Excellence Award honors the institution with the highest grade-point average for all 22 sports sponsored by the CAA. UNCW was one of six institutions in the conference to earn the award for multiple sports.
A team's GPA is the calculation of the GPA for each student-athlete who was on the roster throughout the final day of their sport's championship season during the 2024-25 academic year.
The UNCW women's soccer program posted a 3.792 GPA during the 2024-25 academic year.Â
"The squad really crushed it in the classroom last year," head coach Chris Neal said. "The coaching staff could not be any prouder of them. Of course, they get a ton of support from Ryan Sinnott and the entire academic staff. Ryan works very hard to keep us on track."
The UNCW women's basketball program earned a 3.764 GPA for the 2024-25 academic year.
"Academics is our first priority always, and our student-athletes were the most focused group I've had the privilege to coach," said head coach Nicole Woods. "I'm super proud of how they've represented themselves, our team, and the university. Thank you to Maggie Tabone, as well as my staff, for all the work they've done behind the scenes to ensure we excel academically!"
