WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW track and field claimed three victories on the first day of the UNCW Seahawk Invitational, sweeping both javelin events while claiming the women's 1500-meter open on Friday.
Claire Carmichael registered the Seahawks' first win of the day in the 1500 open, running 4 minutes, 58.12 seconds. Jordyn Robbins and Miles Higgins, both NCAA qualifiers from a season ago, dominated in the javelin, each winning the event for the second consecutive year. Robbins, the defending CAA champion, threw 45.40 meters (148-11 1/2), and Higgins, the 2024 men's runner-up, reached 65.52 meters (214-11 1/2) to wrap up day one for the Seahawks.
Higgins recorded the second-best javelin throw in the nation, while Robbins posted the fourth-best throw in the NCAA.
Carly McCusker and Owen Marish each recorded runner-up finishes in their 1500 opens.
On Saturday, the Seahawks will honor 16 seniors, nine men and seven women, with a ceremony at 11 a.m., one hour before the running events.
Later in the day, the program will induct Patricia "Pat" Smith, a 1971 graduate and former Executive Director of the UNCW Alumni Association, and the 1998 men's team that won the CAA Championship into their hall of fame.
