Badrian, 800 Free Relay Win Gold Medals

HAMPTON, Va. – Gold medal efforts from Ethan Badrian and the men's 800 Free Relay led UNCW on the opening day of the Coastal Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championship meet at the Hampton Aquaplex.

The Seahawk men trail Delaware by five points and the women are in third, 10 points off the pace through six events.

Badrian, a junior, scored 325.5 points in winning the 1-meter board for the second time in his career. Defending champion Nic Newis finished second in the event and Etan Ferguson placed sixth. For UNCW, it was the program's sixth consecutive title in the event and the 14th overall.

The 800 Free Relay of Jacob Duracinsky, Shaw Satterfield, William Carrico and Nathan Jao combined for a winning time of 6:24.99. UNCW last won the event in 2023.

UNCW added a third-place finish in the men's 200 Medley Relay.

The women's 200 Medley Relay of Maeren McGonigal, Gil Shaw, Cameron Snowden and Laura Hinton fashioned a second-place finish with a time of 1:39.23.

In the 800 Free Relay, McGonigal, Emily Waite, Lauren Sharp and Caroline Kozumowski touched the wall in a time of 7:19.08 to take third.

Day two of the championship meet begins at 10 a.m. on Thursday with swimming preliminaries followed by diving preliminaries at 12:30 p.m. The finals will get underway at 6 p.m.
