Carrico Places 20th With Record Performance

ATLANTA, Ga. – UNCW's William Carrico continued his record-setting ways on Thursday at the NCAA Championships with a program and conference record time of 3:40.89 in the 400 IM at the McCauley Aquatics Center.

Carrico, who finished fourth in his heat and 20th overall in the event, set the previous record of 3:42.15 last month at the Coastal Athletic Association Championships. He shaved off 1.26 seconds on Thursday.

With his top-20 finish, he becomes the program's highest finisher since 2002, when Daniel Gallagher placed fourth in the 50 Free at the Gabrielson Natatorium in Athens, Ga.

Carrico and Joseph Busic are the first Seahawks on the men's side to qualify for the NCAA Championships since 2010, when Robert Anderson competed in the 50 Free and 100 Breast.

Carrico and Busic return to the pool on Mar. 28, when they represent UNCW in the 200 IM and 200 Butterfly, respectively, at the NCAA Championships.
