WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW women's track and field prepares for the CAA Indoor Championships on Wednesday and Thursday in Virginia Beach, Va. The first day will consist of the trials for track events and the finals for the pole vault, long jump and weight throw. Day two will include the finals for the track events and the high jump, shot put and triple jump.
Sophomore Emma Crozier-Carole kicks off the Seahawks' championship quest in the pentathlon, which begins the competition at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Crozier-Carole set a collegiate-best with a score of 3,143 in the pentathlon at the indoor championships a season ago. She finished eighth in the event, scored a point for UNCW, and was the highest-finishing freshman in the event.
Bailey Tart, a junior, will compete in the pole vault at noon on Wednesday. Tart was a point scorer for the UNCW at the indoor championships last season, finishing tied for eighth. She captured first place in the pole vault at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational on Feb. 14-15, clearing 3.75 meters (12-3 1/2) to tie for the second-best indoor pole vault in program history.
Brylee Montanari highlights the UNCW competitors in the trials for the 60 hurdles at 2:05 p.m. on Wednesday. The junior has been on the cusp of reaching the finals in the event at multiple indoor meets this season. Montanari finished 11th in the prelims last season with a time of 8.86 seconds.
Senior Nasiah Ferguson will look to continue her great indoor season in the 400-meter trials. Ferguson finished sixth at the indoor championships a season ago with a time of 55.82. She set her collegiate best in the prelims to qualify for the finals last season, running 55.54.
Janiyah Fields finished 13th in the 200-meter dash prelims at the event last season. Fields will try to qualify for the finals at 4:35 p.m. on Wednesday to wrap up day one for UNCW.
The 4x400-meter relay has recorded four program top-10 finishes this season, including the third-fastest time in program history, running 3:50.49 at the Clemson Opener on Dec. 6. The relay lineup of Fields, Ferguson, Ella Jane Osada, and Mackenzie Townsend recorded that time at the Clemson Opener and won the Brant Tolsma Invitational earlier this season on Jan. 25. They will be in action at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday to end the competition.
