WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW women's basketball returns to Trask Coliseum for the home opener against Coastal Carolina on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m.

Four Seahawks scored in double figures as UNCW earned a 78-68 road win against North Carolina Central last Friday night to record the 200th road win in program history. 

UNCW shot 23-for-53 (43%) from the field for the game and closed the third quarter on a 9-0 run to stretch their lead to 62-40, their largest lead of the contest. 

NC Central mounted a late comeback, outscoring UNCW 28-16 in the fourth quarter. The Eagles rallied to cut UNCW's lead to seven with 15 seconds left, but could not draw any closer. 

In the win at NC Central, graduate guard Rori Cox scored a team-high 21 points in 25 minutes off the bench, shooting 10-for-14 at the free-throw line. Cox also hauled in a team-high eight rebounds. 

Cox scored half of UNCW's 42 bench points in the game. She is fourth in the Coastal Athletic Association in scoring with 15.5 points per game.

Freshman forward Icyss Storm is 12th in the CAA in scoring with 13.5 points per game, and ranks second among all freshmen in the CAA. Storm leads the CAA and is 24th in the NCAA in field goal percentage, shooting 73.3% from the field. 

The Durham, North Carolina native finished with a career-high 14 points while grabbing four rebounds in her hometown against NC Central last Friday. 

Storm became the first UNCW freshman to score 10 or more points in each of her first two games since Mary McMillan in 2020.

After missing all of last season with an injury, redshirt sophomore guard Kylah Silver returned to the court in her hometown against East Carolina on Nov. 3. 

Silver filled the stat sheet with 16 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in 38 minutes, all team-highs. She is currently averaging 11 points and six rebounds per game.

NEW AT TRASK

Several amenities and concession enhancements will welcome fans to Trask Coliseum as the UNCW men's and women's basketball programs open the 2025-26 season.

Improvements have been made with the fan experience in mind, highlighted by an upgraded lighting system and improved Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the coliseum. 

More concession speed lines will be available throughout the building to reduce wait times and get fans back to the gameday action.

In addition, several new concession options will be available this year, including select discounted concessions up to 30 minutes before tip-off, souvenir cup options, specialty items, and a kids' meal.

SCOUTING THE CHANTICLEERS

After season-opening losses to Miami (Ohio) and BYU, Coastal Carolina regrouped with a 111-53 win over NCAA Division II opponent Lees-McRae on Nov. 9.

Junior forward Tessa Grady is averaging 13 points per game and leads the team with 39 points and nine 3-point field goals. Grady scored 23 points, shooting 5-for-11 from beyond the arc in the win against Lees McRae.

Kristin Williams, a graduate guard, leads the team with 86 minutes played and is averaging 10.3 points per game. She scored 17 points in the Chanticleers' 91-57 loss at BYU on Nov. 5.

Junior guard D'Yanis Jimenez scored 15 points in her season debut against Lees McRae. 

As of Nov. 11, the Chanticleers are 11th in the nation in 3-point attempts per game, averaging 32.3 per contest.

SERIES HISTORY

Since 1974, UNCW leads the all-time series, 23-11. Coastal Carolina has won the last six meetings, including a 96-64 victory last season.

LAST MEETING

Last season, Coastal Carolina earned a 96-64 home victory on Dec. 18, 2024. Williams had 17 points, three rebounds and five steals in the contest for Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers shot 10-for-35 from 3-point range in the contest.

UP NEXT

The Seahawks will travel to Gardner-Webb for a 7 p.m. contest on Wednesday, Nov. 19. Since 1980, UNCW leads the all-time series 5-1. UNCW has scored 100 or more points in all five of its wins against Gardner-Webb.
