Fobes Reflects on First Pro Win

WILMINGTON, North Carolina - UNCW women's golf alum Mallory Fobes' first professional win at the 2025 Heritage Classic presented by Keystone Solid Surfaces in September will not be remembered just as a personal milestone, but also for who was in attendance following her 11-under-par performance (277).

"It honestly didn't feel real until everyone started throwing water all over me", Fobes remembered about her win. "The whole week just felt like I was playing really solid golf and having fun, and it just happened to be enough to win."

Fobes finished under par in each of the four rounds she played, including a three-under-par (69) performance in the final round to secure the championship. Following her victory, Tour namesake, the legendary Annika Sörenstam, was in attendance to watch and hand out season-ending awards to the players of the ANNIKA Women's All Pro Tour.

"It was so cool — I mean, not many people can say Annika poured water on my head," said Fobes. "It felt amazing, and I was so grateful to her and her husband for taking the time to come out and support our event. That moment is definitely one I'll never forget."

The win moved Fobes up 48 spots in the season points standings, which placed her in the top 20 of the league.

A standout at UNCW from 2019-24, Fobes became the first Seahawk to be named to the All-Coastal Athletic Association First Team four times and joined program standouts Michelle Jarman and Carmen Perez-Narbon as the third Seahawk to earn All-Conference honors four times.

The East Bend, N.C., native played in 120 rounds in college and notched a program-best 73.85 career scoring average during her time in the Port City. She also earned individual entry into the 2023 NCAA Raleigh Regional.

Fobes finished top ten in 10 tournaments at UNCW, including a first-place finish at the 2023 Golfweek Fall Challenge with a 72-68-69=209 scorecard and a career-low performance at the 2024 Wisconsin Westbrook Invitational with a 68-69-68=205 scorecard.

"My time at UNCW was huge for my development.  Competing in high-level events and following a structured practice schedule really helped me build a strong routine and learn how to stay composed around big-name players," Fobes said.  "[This win] definitely gave me the confidence to know I can compete with this next level of players.  But I'm not done yet, this is just the beginning."
