CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – UNCW indoor women's track and field wrapped up competition at the Dick Taylor Carolina Challenge on Saturday. The Seahawks posted 13 collegiate bests across 10 different events.
"We saw personal records, collegiate bests, and most importantly, the strength of our team culture that will help pave the way to where we want to go," head coach Jeff Klaves said. "Our three key points today were effort, intent, and execution. Without a doubt, we hit on the first two and we will continue to refine how we execute and build from here."
After competing at the Clemson Opener in December, the Seahawks continued their season after more than a month of inactivity. The Seahawks' top finisher was freshman Isabelle Liu. She finished second in the triple jump posting a collegiate best of 11.24 meters (36-10 1/2). Liu also recorded a collegiate best in the long jump earlier in the day with a mark of 5.42 meters (17-9 1/2).
"One of our goals is to continue to be competitive in the long sprints and the 4x400-meter relay. I'm proud of the effort and the depth in that event for us. Today was a start. The most important thing coming off a break is to see where we are at. We're leaving knowing that and look forward to continuing to build off these performances."
The Seahawks are back in action next week at the Brant Tolsma Invitational at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va for a three-day event from Jan. 23-25.
