WILMINGTON, North Carolina --Â The UNCW men's and women's cross country teams return to action to host the Wilmington Beach Blast 5K for the fourth straight year at Olsen Park on Friday, Sept. 6.
The Seahawks will attempt to win their home meet for the third straight year when it hosts eight other teams including Campbell, Meredith (women's only), NC Central, Presbyterian, Winston-Salem State and the NC State Club Track Team.
The event starts at 5 p.m. and will host elementary and middle, high school junior varsity and varsity, college and high school championship races. The college men's 5K begins at 6:30 p.m. and the women's 5K starts at 7 p.m.
Sophomore Griffin Wald looks to win the men's 5k race for the second straight year. The Apex, N.C., native is joined in the men's race by Taylor Anthony, Josh Ashley, Sam Bland, Andrew Herring, Nicholas Potter and Robbie Wade.
UNCW will have five entries in the women's 5k with Isabella Borelli, Claire Carmichael, Carly McCusker, Ashley Robey and Caison Turner competing for the Seahawks.
After Friday, the Seahawks are idle until they travel to race at the adidas XC Challenge hosted by NC State on Sept. 20 in Raleigh, N.C.
