WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW Director of Athletics Michael Oblinger has announced the addition of Dr. Meghan Krasnow as Director of Student-Athlete Well Being.

"We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Krasnow as the inaugural Director of Student-Athlete Well-Being," said Oblinger. "Since my first day on the job, establishing this position has been a top priority. Dr. Krasnow brings a wealth of experience and a passionate commitment to mental health, making her a great fit for this critical role. Her leadership and expertise will undoubtedly enhance the well-being of our student-athletes, fostering a supportive environment where they can thrive both on and off the field. Additionally, Dr. Krasnow will play a key role in educating our coaches and athletics staff, ensuring a comprehensive approach to the mental health and overall well-being of our entire athletic community."

Dr. Meghan Krasnow is a Licensed Psychologist who specializes in counseling and sport & performance psychology. In her role, she will provide clinical services, education, resources, and programming to support the holistic development and well-being of student-athletes at UNCW.

"I am greatly honored to serve as the inaugural Director of Student-Athlete Well-Being within UNCW Athletics," said Krasnow. "Since my time as a collegiate student-athlete, it has been my mission to support the holistic well-being, development, and performance of student-athletes in both sport and life. I bring with me a decade of professional experience supporting student-athletes on their life journeys.

"Within this new role at UNCW, I am dedicated to developing and providing quality resources and collaborating with campus partners to meet the needs of the student-athletes, as well as delivering helpful educational services for coaches and athletics staff to further cultivate an environment of holistic well-being and excellence. Go Hawks!"

As a former NCAA Division I collegiate student-athlete, Dr. Krasnow brings with her first-hand experience as a competitive soccer player and scholar from the University of Louisville and High Point University.

She earned her B.S. in Psychology from High Point, M.A. in Sport & Performance Psychology from the University of Denver, and Psy.D. in Counseling Psychology from Springfield College.

Additionally, she completed her pre-doctoral internship at Appalachian State with specializations in sport psychology and eating concerns, and her post-doctoral fellowship at The Bone & Joint Institute's Center for Musculoskeletal Health with specializations in sport psychology, health psychology, and injury rehabilitation psychology; all of which encompassed a strong interwoven focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Dr. Krasnow specializes in supporting the mental health and well-being of collegiate student-athletes as whole people.

She is a member of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) professional organization.

Others on the addition of Dr. Krasnow

"In her new role as Director of Student Athlete Well-Being, Dr. Krasnow will bring the significant elements of athletes' psychological performance and emotional health to the NCAA's new "holistic model" to increase academic and health benefits for athletes.  This new role aligns perfectly with our campus mission to foster an environment where students not only address mental health concerns, but they can become resilient and flourish.  Athletes often have less free time and increased pressure through practice, competition, and travel, so it is important to have an embedded clinician who is familiar with demands placed on athletes and dedicated to their psychological needs to empower them to excel both in competition and in the classroom."
