Softball Preview: Michigan State

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW softball team continues play with its first midweek contest of 2024 vs. Michigan State on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Boseman Field.

The game will be streamed on FloSoftball and live stats will be available on UNCWStats.com.

The Seahawks (8-5) are coming off a 3-1 showing in their home tournament last weekend and are 6-3 in the Port City through the season's first month.

The Spartans (6-9) continue a Carolina road swing after competing in Duke's tournament, a Tuesday afternoon contest at Campbell and will travel to Conway, S.C. to play in Coastal Carolina's round robin next weekend.

UNCW finished Sunday with a flourish, rallying twice in the late innings to win games over Providence and UMBC. Strong pitching kept them in both games, highlighted by CAA Pitcher of the Week Kara Hammock's second complete game of the weekend vs. the Friars.

The Seahawks recovered from an early 3-0 hole against the Terriers behind six-plus relief innings of one-run ball from Emily Winstead and Carrigan Ewers. UNCW's offense made good on their efforts with a four-run comeback capped by a walk-off to win 5-4.

Following Wednesday, the Seahawks travel to Charlotte to play four games the 49ers' tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
