Brezeault Sets Career-High In Win

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW sophomore Alexa Brezeault set a career-high for kills for the third time in her last four matches to lead UNCW to a 3-1 (25-22, 18-25, 25-12, 25-23) win over Alabama State on Tuesday in the Hampton Inn and Suites Classic at Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks pushed their record to 3-4 on the young season while the visiting Hornets dropped their eighth straight to open the season.

Brezeault collected a match-high 16 kills as the Seahawks finished the match with a season-high.293 hitting average. Bolstering that average were Katie Lanz and Emily Hanlon, who finished with nine and seven kills, respectively, with no hitting errors. Hannah Forbes added nine kills for the Seahawks, who notched 18 kills in the final set.

Belle Schall doled out 25 assists and rounded out her first double-double of the season with 11 digs.

UNCW's Quinn Manley held match-high honors with 14 digs.

Talia Gaines paced ASU with 13 kills and hit an even .500 for the match, committing just one miscue in 24 swings.

The Seahawks host East Carolina on Friday at 6 p.m. in Trask Coliseum on the second day of the tournament.
