Melnick Leads Volleyhawks To Win

ELON, N.C. – UNCW's Grace Melnick collected 12 kills and hit .706 as the Seahawks swept home-standing Elon (25-19, 25-22, 25-20) in Coastal Athletic Association volleyball action Saturday at the Schar Center.

The Seahawks (6-7, 3-0 CAA) ran their current winning streak to three with the sweep and remained atop the CAA standings in the early going. Elon, meanwhile, dropped its third straight to open the conference schedule and dipped to 3-8 on the season.

Melnick, who finished one kill shy of tying her career high, added two blocks and a pair of service aces.

Defensively, the Seahawks held Elon to a .107 hitting average and landed three in double-digit digs. Jadyn Barry's 15 led the way while Katie Lanz and Morgan Galligan chipped in 14 and 12, respectively. Galligan fashioned a double-double with 15 assists.

Cameron Lanier paced the Phoenix with eight kills while Jordan Gower held match-high honors with 22 digs.

The series continues Sunday with another 2 p.m. start at the Schar Center.
