Volleyball Splits Two Matches On Saturday

DAVIDSON, N.C. – UNCW sophomore Alexa Brezeault posted a career-high 14 kills in the final match of the Wildcat Classic on Saturday, but the Seahawks fell to host Davidson, 3-1 (28-30, 25-21, 25-17, 25-19) at Belk Arena.

The tournament champions Wildcats improved to 6-0 with the win while the Seahawks, who went 1-2 on the weekend, moved to 2-4 on the season.

Brezeault collected seven of her career-high 14 kills in the first set as the Seahawks rallied past the Wildcats for a 30-28 win. Grace Melnick, who finished with a career-high seven blocks, closed out the win with back-to-back aces.

Led by Jackie Bardin's 14 kills, Davidson landed four players in double-digit kills.

The Wildcats finished with 11 aces on the match.

UNCW knocked off Queens in straight sets (25-20, 25-18, 25-13) earlier in the day. Caitlyn Callahan paced UNCW with nine kills.

The Seahawks return to action on Sept. 7, when they host Alabama State on the first day of the Hampton Inn and Suites Seahawk Classic. First serve is set for 5 p.m. in Trask Coliseum. Admission is free, but the volleyball program asks if you could bring a non-perishable food item to help with the food drive for the 2023 season.
