UNCW Sweeps Opening CAA Series From Aggies

The Seahawks are 2-0 in conference play for the first time since 2015

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW finished off a weekend sweep of Coastal Athletic Association rival North Carolina A&T with a 25-17, 25-18, 25-22 win on Sunday, as the Seahawks opened conference play with back-to-back wins for the first time since 2015.

The Seahawks improved to 5-7 overall on the season while the Aggies dropped to 2-8.

Katie Lanz led the Seahawks with 15 kills and four digs while Sarah Thompson added 10 kills in 16 attacks for a .562 hitting average.

Jadyn Barry paced the UNCW defense with 13 digs and was flawless on serve receive. The Seahawks did not allow a service ace in the match while posting nine aces of their own.

The last time UNCW did not yield an ace was in 2017 when it did so twice against James Madison (10/21/17) and at Delaware (11/2/17).

Naiya Sawtelle held match-high honors for the Aggies with 16 kills and hit .333 on the afternoon. Chiara Napoli doled out 24 assists and just missed a double-double with nine digs.

The Seahawks continued conference play next weekend with two matches at Elon. The series opens with a 2 p.m. start on Sept. 23.
