Seahawks Shut Out Lancers in Preseason Opener

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW women's soccer team scored a goal in each half to push past Longwood 2-0 in preseason action at the UNCW Soccer Stadium on Wednesday.

The teams were scoreless until the 41st minute when Seahawk sophomore Ayla Vaneus netted an unassisted goal to put the Seahawks up 1-0 shortly before halftime.

Freshman Viktoria Hankova then added an insurance score in the 56th minute courtesy of assists by Ainsley Norr and Issy Bryant to cap the scoring.

UNCW collected four corners, including three in the second half, while limiting the Lancers to one corner opportunity. 

UNCW continues the preseason on Saturday, Aug. 12, with a home match vs. Clemson at 7:30 p.m. The exhibition represents the second half of a Soccerpalooza single-admission doubleheader with the UNCW men's soccer team, who hosts Old Dominion at 5 p.m.
