Harris Joins Women's Soccer as Assistant Coach

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW women's soccer Head Coach Chris Neal has named former North Carolina goalkeeper Lindsey Harris as an assistant coach for the 2023 season.

Harris played for the Tar Heels from 2012-16 and was a member of UNC's 2012 national championship team. She turned professional in 2017 and has played for four clubs across Iceland, Norway, Portugal and the United States, most recently for the Portland Thorns of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL).

"We're so excited to have Lindsey in the Hawks' Nest. Her experiences in extremely competitive and professional playing environments will have a positive effect on our team culture," said Neal. "We are very proud of our team, university, and city and can't wait to show her what we are all about."

Harris, a three-year starter in Chapel Hill, totaled 65 appearances and 31 starts for the Tar Heels where she recorded 144 career saves. The 5-7 goalkeeper collected a 31-8-6 record in net for UNC Head Coach Anson Dorrance.

She broke the single-season saves record with 90 in 2016 and posted nine clean sheets. Harris's efforts earned her UNC's Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year accolades upon graduation.

"I am so excited to be joining the UNCW staff! After speaking with Coach Neal, it feels like the perfect fit and having played at UNC, North Carolina is a second home to me," said Harris. "I've played professionally for the last seven years so I am looking forward to coaching at the Division I level and sharing my experience with the players to help them grow in any way that I can."

The Austin, Texas, native inked her first pro contract with the Iceland club FH after graduation. Harris competed in 1,620 minutes across 18 games and helped FH drop its goals-against average by 35 percent.

Harris then spent two seasons with the Norwegian club Klepp, helping the squad claim a spot in the UEFA Champions League and won the 2019 Toppserien Goalkeeper of the Year.

Harris returned stateside in 2020 when she inked a deal with the Houston Dash in the NWSL. She became the first Dash goalkeeper to fashion a shutout when she debuted in April 2021.

The netminder appeared in five regular season matches for the Dash, recording 10 saves, and entered in two matches during the 2021 Challenge Cup with two shutouts and six saves.
