Fobes Takes Flight to NCAA Raleigh Regional

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW's Mallory Fobes makes her debut on one of the biggest stages in women's college golf at the NCAA Raleigh Regional to be played on the Lonnie Poole Golf Course from May 8-10.

The three-day tournament will feature a par-72, 6,324-yard layout featuring greenery and breathtaking views of the Raleigh skyline as designed by legendary golfer Arnold Palmer.

Tee times are will begin at 8 a.m. each day. Live stats will be available throughout the regional on Golfstat.com.

The Raleigh Regional, hosted by NC State, is one of six 54-hole tournaments that will feature 12 teams and six individual entries at each site for a total of 396 student-athletes competing.

The top five teams and individual not part of an advancing team from each of the six regional sites, 156 players total, will qualify for the 2023 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships, scheduled to be played May 19-24 at the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Fobes, a three-time All-Colonial Athletic Association First-Teamer, fashioned a team-low 73.33 scoring average across 27 rounds this year. She has carded a school-record 10 rounds of par or better, including seven rounds under par.

"I'm very excited for Mallory to experience and compete in her first NCAA Regional," said UNCW's 21st-year Head Coach Cindy Ho. "She's had a great season and been our most consistent performer the last three years. She's fearless so I'm looking forward to being with her at Lonnie Poole this week."

The East Bend, N.C., product became the fourth Seahawk to garner three straight All-CAA First-Team nods, joining Carmen Perez-Narbon (2007-09), Sofia Hagsund (2010-2012) and Annette Lyche (2014-16).

Fobes has recorded three top-10 finishes bookended by a share of fourth place at the Golfweek Fall Challenge in the season opener and a tie for sixth at the CAA Championships in mid-April.

She has also helped the Seahawks capture their first team title in two years at the River Landing Classic in March. She capped the UNCW-hosted tournament with a two-under-par 70 third-round score to finish with a share of sixth place in Wallace, N.C.

Fobes is the fifth player in program history to be rewarded with an individual entry to an NCAA Regional as Lori Beth Adams (2013, 2014), Sofia Hagsund (2010), Michelle Jarman (2006) and Nicole Flood (1998) were also selected during their respective careers.
