CAA Men's Tennis Champions Add Second Recruit

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW's back-to-back-to-back Colonial Athletic Association men's tennis champions have added Israeli standout Jonathan Baron to the roster for the 2023-24 season.

The Seahawks, who recently sailed through the CAA Championship and battled No. 11 Duke tough in the NCAA Regionals, return the bulk of their roster that has dominated the conference over the last decade.

Baron joins Spanish tennis standout Jordi Domenach on the roster for next year. Domenach, from Almunecar, Spain, signed with the Seahawks in November.

The 6-2, 170-pound Baron, out of Tel Aviv, Israel, will bring impressive credentials to the United States. He owns a career high ATP ranking of 1218 in singles, with a career-best ITF men's ranking of 109. He was a semifinalist in the ITF Future event in Mozambique and has five ATP points in singles to his credit.

Baron's highest UTR doubles ranking is 12.33 with 15 ATP points in doubles. His highest ATP ranking is 1232.

"Jonathan is very experienced on the international level and has played over 25 ITF Futures already," said Mait DuBois, the CAA's nine-time Coach of the Year. "He is consistently advancing and making the main draw of tournaments, which is impressive since he has been simultaneously been serving in the Israeli military.

"I believe Jonathan will really thrive when he gets into our environment. Throughout the recruiting process, many people spoke of his high character and strong work ethic. He is well respected among his peers and coaches. Jonathan also comes from a strong tennis family, with his mother being ranked in the top-50 on the WTA tour."
