Eight Swimmers and Divers Named CSC Academic All-District

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Eight UNCW swimmers and divers were named Academic All-District© by the College Sports Communicators for their success both in the pool and in the classroom.

Earning Academic All-District© distinction were Silas Crosby, Dave Fitch, Kenneth Lowe and Sam O'Brien from the men's program while Katie Knorr, Tink Niebel, Sarah Olson and Courtney Klausen were named to the team from the women's team.

All honorees own a cumulative grade point average above 3.50 and have spent at least one academic year at UNCW.

Crosby earned a bronze medal in the 1650 Free at the CAA Championships and added a pair of top-six finishes in the 500 Free and 400 IM.

Fitch helped UNCW's 200 Free Relay to a gold medal and finished fourth in both the 100 Butterfly and 100 Breaststroke.

Lowe anchored UNCW's record-setting 400 Free Relay that fashioned both a CAA record and school-record time of 2:52.73, which ranked the Seahawks 35th nationally.

O'Brien won both the 500 and 1650 Freestyle at the CAA Championships, setting a CAA record in the 500 with a school-record time of 4:19.02. In the 200 Backstroke, O'Brien finished second and set a program record in the preliminaries with a time of 1:42.35.

Knorr defended her conference title and broke her own school (4:15.22) record in the 400 IM at the championship meet, won the consolation finals of the 200 IM and placed second in the 200 Bckstoke.

Niebel earned a bronze medal by swimming the anchor leg of the Seahawks' 400 Free Relay. She also was seventh in the championship final of the 200 IM.

Olson was a three-time medalist, swimming in both the 200 Medley Relay (second) and the 400 Free Relay that finished third. She earned a silver with her second-place finish in the 50 Free. Olson also finished fifth with the 400 Medley Relay and sixth in the 100 Free.

Klausen was named Diver of the Meet for the second straight CAA Championship meet. She won the 3-meter board for a third time and added a silver medal on the 1-meter.
