Lines Competes At USATF Indoor Nationals

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – Senior track and field standout Courtney Lines is all set to compete against the nation's elite jumpers in the USA Track and Field Indoor Championships on Friday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
 
The Leland, N.C., product, who captured the ECAC title last winter, has won three consecutive long jump competitions to start this year's indoor campaign.
 
She qualified for the USATF meet by posting a 20-08.00 (6.30m) mark at the 2022 ECAC Championships. USATF officials accepted marks from Jan. 1, 2022, to Feb. 1, 2023.
 
This year, Lines jumped 19-10.25 at North Carolina's Dick Taylor Challenge on Jan. 14, 2023, in Chapel Hill. In addition to winning in Chapel Hill, Lines took first at Liberty's Brant Tolsma Invitational (19-03-25) and the Richard Drake Invitational (18-05.25) at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
 
Lines is scheduled to jump at 1:45 p.m. on Friday.
 
"We're very excited about Courtney competing this weekend," said UNCW Head Coach Jeff Klaves. "She's locked in and ready to take it all in. Qualification into a meet like this has been a year in the making. Small but elite continues to be our vision and earned opportunities like this mean everything for Courtney and our program.
 
"Courtney has never stopped working hard and has learned through experience. This qualification and the opportunity to wear the UNCW jersey on the national stage proves it can be done here."
 
During last year's indoor season, Lines finished 27th on the NCAA list. In the 2022 outdoor season, Lines broke the school record in the long jump, won the Colonial Athletic Association title and earned a berth in the NCAA's East Preliminary Round.
 
Lines and her teammates will compete in the inaugural CAA Indoor T&F Championships at the Virginia Beach Sports Center on Feb. 22-23, 2023. Twelve women's teams will vie for the title - Charleston, Delaware, Elon, Hampton, Hofstra, Monmouth, North Carolina A&T, UNCW, Northeastern, Stony Brook, Towson and William & Mary.
