Women's Basketball Preview: Hampton

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW women's basketball team returns to the confines of Trask Coliseum on Friday for a Colonial Athletic Association rematch with Hampton at 7 p.m.

The Seahawks (4-19, 1-11 CAA) and Lady Pirates (8-14, 5-7 CAA) meet for the second time on FloHoops after Hampton edged out a 38-34 win at home on Jan. 15. The game can also be heard on 95.9 The Breeze in Wilmington with live stats on UNCWStats.com.

UNCW trailed 36-34 with nine seconds left and the ball, but the Lady Pirates came up with a steal on the inbounds play and converted a fast-break layup by Dlayla Chakolis, who scored a game-high 13 points, to seal the win.

The Seahawks' leading scorer Carrie Gross (14.8 ppg) became a member of the 1,000-point club last weekend at Delaware. The graduate guard has scored 15 or more points in five of her last six games, including 17 markers in Sunday's 60-44 loss at Towson.

Junior guard Evan Miller has delivered the two highest-scoring outputs of her three-year career over the previous two games, scoring a career-high 13 points in both road games last weekend.

Hampton's offense is driven by a pair of CAA Top-20 scorers in junior forward Nylah Young (13.5 ppg) and junior guard/forward Camryn Hill (12.3 ppg). Young is coming off a 20-point effort in the Lady Pirates' 72-67 defeat to Northeastern.

The Seahawks remain at home on Sunday when they welcome fourth-place Stony Brook to Trask Coliseum at 2 p.m. for the first time as a conference rival.
