Woods Signs Lohan, Pelayo for 2024-25

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW women's basketball Head Coach Nicole Woods has announced the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for the 2024-25 academic year.

Guard Finley Lohan and center Angelina Pelayo become the first high school signees for the Seahawks under Woods.

Finley Lohan
Position: Guard
Height: 5-10
Hometown: Charleston, W. Va.
High School: George Washington High School
Club Team: West Virginia Thunder

Highlights: 2023 Kanawha Valley Player of the year at George Washington High School under Coaches Jamie LaMaster and Brian Mallory … averaged 14.4 ppg, 7.0 pg and 5.6 apg as a junior in which she shot 50 percent from the field and 33 percent from three-point range … has totaled 852 points, 311 rebounds, 292 assists, 133 steals and 142 blocks as a prep standout.

Coach Woods Says: "When you look up work you will see a picture of Finley Lohan. Fin checks all of the boxes in terms of work ethic and skill. She has the drive to be the best. Her versatility offensively and defensively will prove to be an asset to our program. I am grateful she chose us!"

Angelina Pelayo
Position: Center
Height: 6-3
Hometown: Louisville, Kent.
High School: Sacred Heart Academy
Club Team: West Virginia Thunder

Highlights: Three-time Kentucky High School Athletic Association state champion under Head Coach Donna Moir at Sacred Heart Academy … has totaled 103 appearances and scored over 1,000 career points … earned 2023 All-District and All-Region Accolades after averaging 11.6 ppg and shooting 63 percent from the field … a dominant post presence who has collected 120 blocks over the first three seasons of high school … top-ranked center in the state of Kentucky for the class of 2024.

Coach Woods Says: "We are thrilled to have AP. I've known and recruited her for a long time now. AP fits the style of play I want as well as the type of person I want on my team. AP provides depth on the inside. She also comes from winning stock, being a state champion three years in a row. We look forward to adding that winning posture to Seahawk nation!"
