Volleyhawks Edged In Five By Stony Brook

Seawolves pickup key win in CAA tournament berth race

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – UNCW was unable to hold onto a 2-1 lead through three sets as Stony Brook earned a key win in the Coastal Athletic Association tournament berth race on Saturday, winning in five sets (31-29, 23-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-10).

The Seawolves moved ahead of the Seahawks in the standings and improved to 13-13 overall and 8-7 in the league. UNCW dropped back to 10-15 and 7-8 with its third straight loss.

Katie Lanz had a match-high 18 kills for UNCW while adding 15 digs for a double-double. Setter Belle Schall doled out 31 assists and collected a team-high 19 digs.

Leoni Kunz, meanwhile, had a team-high 17 kills and held match-high honors with 25 digs for the Seawolves. Kali Moore and Ava Jackson chipped in 15 and 14 kills, respectively.

SBU setter Torri Henry finished with six kills, 56 assists and 15 digs.

The Seahawks struggled in the match, committing a season-high tying 31 hitting errors.

UNCW finished with 13 aces while SBU had 16 service errors.

The series concludes on Sunday with a 1 p.m. start.
