Forbes Leads Volleyhawks In Season Finale

UNCW takes down W&M in five sets to finish 9-9 in the CAA

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Behind 14 kills from sophomore Hannah Forbes and 10 apiece from Katie Lanz and Caitlyn Callahan, UNCW closed out the season with a five-set 17-25, 25-23, 24-26, 25-15, 15-7) win over visiting William & Mary on Sunday at Hanover Hall.

The Seahawks finished the season 12-16 overall and tied for sixth in the Coastal Athletic Association standings, while the Tribe capped the season at 13-15 and 8-10.

Northeastern, which also finished 9-9 in the CAA, earned the final berth in the conference tournament via a tiebreaker.

William & Mary held a 2-1 lead after three sets, but the Seahawks answered with a 25-15 win in the fourth and broke away early in the fifth for a 15-7 match-clinching win. UNCW hit .350 over the final sets.

Forbes' 14 kills were a career-high as were her 34 attacks on the afternoon. She added three blocks.

Lanz posted a double-double of 10 kills and 20 digs, while Belle Schall had 32 assists and 10 digs.

Callahan chipped in seven blocks, a match-high, in addition to her 10 kills.

Jadyn Barry collected a match-best 21 digs and handed out six assists.

Sarah Callender's 12 kills paced the Tribe, while Maddie Meyers and Sabrina Malcom added nine and eight, respectively.
