Volleyhawks Sweep Series Opener At Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. – Grace Melnick's 10 kills led a balanced offense for UNCW on Saturday, as the Seahawks swept host Hampton (25-20, 25-16, 25-20) in Coastal Athletic Association volleyball action at Holland Hall.

The Seahawks snapped a five-match losing skid to improve to 9-12 overall and 6-5 in the conference. The Pirates, meanwhile, remained winless at 0-13 on the season and 0-11 in the CAA.

Melnick's .615 hitting average paced the Seahawks offense, which hit .282 on the match. Caitlyn Callahan had nine kills while Katie Lanz and Alexa Brezeault added eight and seven, respectively.

Lanz collected her 1,000th kill in the third set to become the ninth Seahawk to reach that plateau and the first since Nicole Lott in 2016.

Belle Schall moved into ninth on UNCW's career assists list with 1,601. Schall finished with 29 assists in the match.

The series concludes with a 1 p.m. start on Sunday.
