Seahawks Continue Fall Seasons at ECU

GREENVILLE, North Carolina – The UNCW men's and women's cross country teams continued their fall seasons with an 8k men's race and 6k women's race at the ECU Pirate Invitational contested at Overton's Lake Kristi on Saturday morning.

Temple paced the seven-team men's field with 43 points while the Seahawks finished in fifth place. The host Pirates won the women's race with 52 points while the UNCW women earned a seventh place finish out of 10 teams.

Sophomore Summer Herbertson (22:36.8) topped UNCW in the women's 6K to close the race in 19th place. Hebertson, a Sunderland, Md., native, has led the UNCW women in all four races this fall.

Freshmen Carly McCusker (29th - 23:21.2) and Isabella Borelli (46th - 23:52.5) along with junior Taylor Rand (47th – 23:54.3) rounded out Seahawks in the top 50 in the 85-runner field.

On the men's side, sophomore Sam Bland (35th - 25:45.2) and freshman Griffin Wald (36th – 25:49.7) headed the UNCW men in the 8K that featured 67 runners.

The Seahawk cross country teams will next prepare for the Coastal Athletic Association Championships in Williamsburg, Va., on Oct. 27.
