Women's Tennis Notches Three Semifinal Appearances

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Anna Parker Shumate reached E Flight finals to highlight an impressive weekend of play for the women's tennis program at the Navy Blue and Gold Invitational.
Making its fall debut, UNCW had two individuals and a doubles team advance to the semifinals.

Shumate, a junior, posted wins over Chloe Floyd (6-2, 6-3) and Amanda Rivera-Gonzales (6-4, 6-2), both of Villanova before falling to Ashton in the finals (6-2, 2-6 (5-10)).

Katelyn Hubbard, a freshman, won three matches over Emma Brogan from Villanova 4-6, 6-0 (14-12), Charlotte Bell from George Washington 6-2, 6-1, and Solange Skeene from George Washington 6-4, 6-3 to capture her draw.

Alicia Eberwein, a freshman, advanced to the semifinals of the C Flight before falling to Georgetown's Morgan Coburn 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).
Also advancing to the semifinals was Elif Albayrak, a sophomore, of UNCW. Abayrak dropped her match, 6-3, 5-7 (10-2).

In doubles, the William & Mary pairing of Hedda Gurholt and Francesca Davis moved onto the finals of the A Flight with a 6-3 win over UNCW's Stella Joksimovic and Eda Arli.

"The Seahawks enjoyed another great tournament at the Navy Blue & Gold Invitational," said Associate Head Coach John Ware. "We accomplished a lot on the tennis courts, showing tremendous character, team support, and a solid level of play. We made more positive gains in our fitness and will use the great competition we saw all weekend to help us get stronger. Most of our on-court training has been on doubles so it was nice to see so many hard-fought singles matches from everyone. This team has a great energy. Although we have six new players on the team, it feels like we have been together for years. I know everyone is looking forward to another few weeks of training and excited for our next chance to compete."

The Seahawks next head to the Brown Fall Classic, hosted by Brown University, on Oct. 14-15, in Providence R.I.
