Women's Basketball Preview: Monmouth

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW will make it two straight home games on Sunday when it greets new Colonial Athletic Association rival Monmouth in a 2 p.m. women's basketball contest at Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks (4-13, 1-5 CAA) and Hawks (8-10, 3-4 CAA) link for the first time since 2009, when the two squads played to a 63-49 Seahawk victory in Wilmington.

The Sunday afternoon conference tilt will be streamed on FloHoops with Elijah Mize and Tom Lamont on the call. An audio broadcast can be heard on 95.9 The Breeze in Wilmington. Live stats will be found on UNCWStats.com.

UNCW picked up its first win in 23 conference games on Friday with a narrow 62-58 victory vs. Elon. The Seahawks, led by Jayde Gamble's career-high 20 points, led as many as 10 points after halftime and sank nine free throws in the final minute to stave off the Phoenix's comeback bid.

Gamble's second career 20-point effort was accompanied by junior forward Lexi Jackson's well-rounded effort. The 6-3 post player, who has a block in 11 of her last 12 games, provided 11 points, nine rebounds and four rejections in Friday night's win.

Monmouth, completing its southernmost CAA trip, fell at Charleston 70-65 on Friday. The Hawks' Ariana Vanderhoop posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, but three Cougars scored in double figures, led by Jada Logan's 27 markers, to keep Monmouth at bay.

The Seahawks return to action next Friday, Jan. 27, at William & Mary at 7 p.m.
