Volleyhawks Rally In Five Sets

LYNCHBURG, Va. – UNCW senior Katie Lanz powered UNCW to a five-set win over Murray State with a team-high 16 kills on Friday at the Liberty Center.

The Seahawks improved to 1-3 with the win while the Racers took their first loss of the season to drop to 2-1.

UNCW won the opening set, 25-21, but dropped the next two as Murray State took the lead, 2-1. The Seahawks rallied with a 25-18 win in the fourth and cruised to a dominant 15-6 win in the fifth set.

Caitlyn Callahan led the way at the net with six total blocks as the Seahawks posted a 12-3 advantage in blocks.

Murray State was limited to a meager .085 hitting average on the afternoon.

Jadyn Barry had 22 digs and Annabelle Schall doled out 30 assists.

Federica Nuccio of Murray State held match-high honors with 17 kills. MSU finished with four players in double-digit kills but couldn't overcome 40 hitting errors.

The Seahawks return to the court on Saturday at 10 a.m. against host Liberty and then closes out the tournament run with a 1 p.m. first serve against Winthrop.
