Men's Cross Country Joe Browning

Seahawk XC Teams Finish 4th In Debut

ELON, North Carolina – The UNCW cross country teams each finished fourth overall at the season-opening 2022 "Friday Night Lights" Elon XC Opener late Friday.
 
The Seahawk women's team finished fourth out of eight teams in the 4K race that started at 8:15 p.m. on the Elon campus. The Seahawk men came in fourth out of seven entries in the 8:45 p.m. 6K race.
 
Host Elon topped Duke in the women's race, while the Blue Devils took the men's competition over the Phoenix.
 
In addition to the Seahawks and host Phoenix, the competition featured runners from Bluefield State, Campbell, Duke, East Carolina, Meredith, Pfeiffer and Shaw.
 
Senior Kendall Hobbs paced seven Seahawks in the women's race. The Beavercreek, Ohio, product came in 14th with a time of 14:42. Elon's Leandra Lorenza won the women's event with a 13:22 finish.
 
On the men's side, freshman Sam Bland came in 23rd place with a 19:52 time to anchor UNCW's six runners. Duke's Rory Covan captured individual honors in 18:07.
 
The Seahawk teams next stage their only home event of the season, the UNCW Beach Blast, next Friday, Sept. 9, 2022, at Olsen Park.
