Men's Cross Country Joe Browning

Seahawk Harriers Register Fifth Place Finishes

CARY, North Carolina – Freshman Sam Bland and junior Kendall Hobbs paced UNCW's runners on Friday evening as the Seahawk cross country teams each finished fifth in the Adidas XC Challenge at the WakeMed Soccer Park Cross Country Course.
 
The Seahawks, competing against the host Wolfpack and 15 other teams, completed the third race on their five-event regular season schedule. The teams next compete in Coastal Carolina's Chanticleer Challenge on Sept. 30 in Conway, S.C.
 
Bland (Matthews, N.C.) led UNCW's young men's team with a personal best time of 19:27 over the 6K rolling course near Raleigh. Hobbs (Beavercreek, Ohio) was the top finisher for the Seahawks for the third consecutive race, clocking an 18:42 time on the 5K layout.
 
NC State swept both races in easy fashion, totaling 20 points in the men's competition and 16 points in the women's race. Charleston Southern's Micah Gilpatric won the men's individual title with a time of 17:24, while three-time All-American Samantha Bush of NC State captured the women's individual crown in 16:14.
